A: Let us know! We offer private instruction and are happy to set up custom tours for any group of 6 or more.

Q: Do I need to register ahead of time?
A: Yes. For us to properly prepare for an event and in order to provide the safest, most enjoyable experience for all our guests, we do require advance reservations.

Q:
How many people per kayak?
A: We have both solo and tandem kayaks in our fleet. When registering, you will be asked what your preference is.

Q: Do I need to bring my own equipment?
A:
Absolutely not. Our event price includes kayaks (or canoes), paddles, PFDs (Personal Floatation Devices), and all safety equipment. You're certainly welcome to bring your own gear - we simply ask that you let us know when registering if you plan to do so.

Q: Why does WROTC ask for my height, weight and date of birth?
A: So that our instructors and guides can properly prepare for the event and to make sure we have the kayaks and gear that will you will be comfortable in.

Q: What is the minimum age for trips and classes?
A:
For tours and trips, our minimum age is 6 years old, paddling or riding in a kayak with a parent or legal guardian. Children age 12 and older who are capable of paddling a kayak on their own are welcome to paddle a solo kayak.

Q: What should I wear?
A:
We highly recommend that you wear quick-drying synthetic fabrics. For evening tours, be sure to bring a windbreaker or fleece, as it can get chilly on the water at night even in July and August. A hat and sunglasses are highly recommended. We do not recommend cotton clothing, as it is uncomfortable when wet and can contribute to hypothermia (a potential problem even in the hottest weather). You might consider leaving a dry change of clothes in your vehicle, just in case......

Q: What should I bring?
A:
It's important to bring plenty of water, sunscreen and a hat. Sunglasses and snacks (such as food bars) are recommended. Be sure to bring any prescription medications you might need such as an asthma inhaler or EpiPen. For full day classes, be sure to bring a lunch.

Q: Where are classes held?
A: Our instructional classes are normally conducted on a nearby, flat-water lake, where we'll have no distractions. Our advanced classes may be conducted in a salt water environment, allowing us to experience the effects of tides and currents, wind, and other watercraft. Of course, our surf-related classes are conducted on the oceanfront, primarily at Little Island City Park in southern Virginia Beach.

Q: Where are tours and trips held?
A: Our half-day tours and trips are conducted throughout Virginia Beach, in fresh, brackish, and salt water environments. Full-day tours and trips may be conducted outside the local area.

Q: How will we know where to meet for our event?
A: When registering for an event, you will be provided a confirmation packet which includes specific directions to our "put-in" location. We'll also provide our cell phone numbers so that you can contact us if you're running late.
